Canon EOS 7D

Canon EOS 7D

The Canon 7D is the top of the line X0D series of Canon EOS crop-sensor cameras, but when the 7D first came out there were many focus and noise issues people were having. After reading many reviews I decided to hold off on making the step up from my 40D, which is now an antique compared to the 50D and 60D models. It appears the focus and noise issues that were once there have now been resolved. The 7D is now the best choice for keen enthusiasts, professionals and aspiring-professionals who wanted top-level image quality and functionality without the bulk (or price) of a pro-level camera such as the 1D series.

Catamaran Sails along the coast of St Maarten

Catamaran Sails along the coast of St Maarten

I took this photo on a catamaran tour around the island of St Maarten in the Eastern Caribbean. I was leaning against the side rail enjoying the beautiful sunny clear day out on the open water and I looked up at this was my view. The sun was hitting the sails and casting lots of cool shadows. HTML5 for Web Designers

HTML5 for Web Designers

I have just ordered this book and look forward to receiving it. I am graphic and web designer with 17 years in the design industry and have just recently started learning the coding side of the web and interactive apps. I know HTML and CSS and some basic JavaScript, but I am looking forward to learning more to expand my creative knowledge. HTML5 is the longest HTML specification ever written. It is also the most powerful, and in some ways, the most confusing. What do accessible, content-focused standards-based web designers and front-end developers need to know? And how can we harness the power of HTML5 in today’s browsers?

The Kerning Game

The Kerning Game

The art of spacing your type is know as kerning and also tracking. In typesetting, the process of subtracting space between specific pairs of characters so that the overall letterspacing appears to be even is KERNING. Where the overall tightness or looseness of the spacing between all characters in a line or block of text is known as TRACKING. Although allot of designers only use the term KERNING when adjusting type is their designs. Anyone who works with letters extensively knows that good spacing is often more important than good letters. In “Lettering as a Work of Art”, the essay that prefaces Treasury of Alphabets and Lettering (1966 but originally Meisterbuch der Schrift, 1952), Jan Tschichold says, “Good lettering demands three things: A beautiful letterform must be selected which is appropriate to the purpose it is to serve and to the lettering technique to be used. This calls for well balanced and sensitive letter spacing and word spacing, which takes the letter spacing into account. A harmonious and logical arrangement of lines is essential.
