Walk’n on Sunshine

Project Objectives

The design project was a joint effort between scotthillDesign and the Uphill Marketing Group. The client came to us to create and build their logo, full branding and web experience for their new Yacht charter Walk’n on Sunshine. The brand and website needed to capture the feeling of the Caribbean, while providing details for the 48’ Dufour Cervetti Catamaran, available destinations and private Crewed Charter yacht vacation. In addition to the charter rates and availability.

  Branding – Logo – Website Design & Development  

Walk’n on Sunshine is a PRIVATE crewed yacht charter that offers the freedom to visit your choice of picturesque locations in the US and British Virgin Islands. They offer several itineraries that take you to a new destination each day, allowing you to experience the Virgin Islands. The captain and chef will help keep you safe and well fed.

The Vision

The vision for the Walk’n on Sunshine brand and web experience was to create a new modern and clean design to promote their Catamaran all-inclusive getaways in the USVI, BVI, and Caribbean. We needed to create a visual identity that captures the feeling of the open seas while communicating the yachts features and services provided by the private crewed captain and professional chef. The challenge was how to differentiate Walk’n on Sunshine from the many different private charters available in the Caribbean, while conveying their passion for exploring the tropical islands and delivering an unforgettable experience for their guests.

The new visual design and brand is evocative, authentic, and clear, and the voice captures Walk’n on Sunshine’s devotion to providing first-class accommodations, fresh and local cuisine, and access to picturesque locations throughout the US and British Virgin Islands.

 

Branding

We designed a brand identity that embodies the Yacht herself, Walk’n on Sunshine a 48’ Dufour Cervetti Catamaran. During the design phase we explored different solutions to capture the feel of the warm Caribbean sun on the open sea. We experimented with typography, iconography, and underwent an extensive brand mark exploration during the creation of the new brand and identity of the Yacht. First was a play on words using the sun and a symbol of feet and flip-flops to capture the feel of exploring the sun along the sea’s horizon. As this was a little too clique, we changed our approach to incorporate the catamaran moving across the open waters. We focussed on creating a sleek and modern catamaran style and captured the feel of movement with the typography and overall design style. The logo and brand have been applied to the Yacht herself and T-shirt for guests who charter Walk’n on Sunshine.

 

 

My Role

As the Creative Lead, Designer and Information Architect I worked with Uphill Marketing Group and the client to gather requirements and understand the overall vision, objectives and business needs for the new Walk’n on Sunshine brand and online experience. With this information I created a workflow and sitemap and translated that into a user experience strategy and framework for the new website. I utilized the brands color palette and created a solid grid system to design layouts to communicate the relation between the Yacht and services they offer to their clients. Combined with photography of Walk’n on Sunshine and different locations around the Caribbean islands.

The website experience was accomplished through the use of creative solutions, strategic planning and execution of the business requirements and objectives within the design and development of the Walk’n on Sunshine website and new brand.

 

 

Our final creative design solutions for the Walk’n on Sunshine brand and website creates a cohesive identity for the Yacht and website that stands out as a great option for travelers looking for a private Yacht charter in the Caribbean. We successfully accomplish all aspects of the Identity and Brand for Walk’n on Sunshine which has created a engaging user experience for the website’s users. The end result is a unified brand experience and web presence that is smart, approachable, and attractive to potential travelers.

Project Objectives

The Grant Academy is a private school that specializes in the education of elementary age students with learning and cognitive disabilities, ADHD, ADD, Asperger’s autism, and other disabilities. The Grant Academy came to us to create and build a full branding and web experience that captured their unique approach to optimize learning for all types of students. The new visual design and brand must help them to stand out from other private S.T.E.M. schools into a league of their own, while communicating the benefits and affordability of their style of education and learning.

The Grant Academy believes all students can learn, but some learn differently. They use a whole brain approach to optimize learning. If students can feel it, touch it, hear it, and experience it, they can gain a better understanding and experience true learning.

 

The Vision

The vision for The Grant Academy’s new brand and web experience was to communicate the school’s effectiveness, professionalism, and confidence with their educators experience, ability and passion for teaching. We needed to ensure the digital brand has a strong, positive meaning for the school, and represents The Grant Academy’s extensive knowledge, experience and understanding when working with special needs students. The web experience honors their commitment to the students and parents with easy-to-navigate actions and reliable information that communicates their key goals to help their students achieve their academic and social goals.

The new visual design and brand is evocative, real, and clear, and the voice captures The Grant Academy’s devotion to the success of its students, collaborative spirit, and integrity.

 

Branding

We organized a brand strategy meeting with the client to understand their vision for the new Grant Academy brand. They had a general idea for the logo and brand image to incorporate the use of a crest or shield to symbolize their steadfast principles, commitment, loyalty to their students and process of teaching. We took this concept and expandeded it with use of abstract representations of people in the middle of the logo to embody their commitment to all students regardless of race, religion, or nationality. The stars are symbols of the goals and achievements students acquire at The Grant Academy, and the tagline represents their philosophy… “In the right environment, all students will achieve more success”.

 

Creating a unified brand and image to represent The Grant Academy was a little tricky. Care was given to ensure the visual identity scales clearly across their multiple branding initiatives.

 

To brand the new school identity multiple combinations of the logo and color palette were designed and applied to all the brand components. The design of the exterior signage is clean, bold, and professional to clearly mark the school. The Grant Academy is a private school and requires uniforms for their students. With different color combinations used for the uniforms the logo had to be refined while maintaining the original brand qualities. The color palette was carefully created and applied to the design of the school uniforms, signage, marketing materials and online web experience in a consistent manner.

 

 

My Role

As the Creative Lead, Designer and Information Architect I worked with the client to gather requirements and understand the overall vision, objectives and business needs for the new Grant Academy brand and online experience. I created the branding guidelines, website structure, content flow, page layouts and design by utilizing the latest interactive technologies including HTML5, CSS3 and WordPress Shortcodes to create a user-centered design focused on the key services offered by The Grant Academy. I ensured the online experience, all design collateral and marketing materials have a cohesive and consistent look and feel to represent The Grant Academy brand.

The overall experience of the website symbolizes The Grant Academy’s modern approach to special education. We implemented clear interactions with clean design elements, bold graphics and custom photography, which aligns with the quality of courses provided by The Grant Academy and their educators.

 

Collateral & Photography

The Grant Academy required visual identity collateral for their teachers and for general use within the school. The brand collateral needs to do be much more than just be pretty, it must communicate their services and create a positive message to the parents of potential students. The design must convey their message in a clear and distinguishable way across all collateral. The media used to support the message should have consistent color, style, and visual assets across all channels and further The Grant Academy’s mission. We also designed the school signage and a marketing brochure to clearly communicate The Grant Academy’s purpose and abilities as a Private Elementary S.T.E.M. School that can be trusted with their students education. The new brand image was also applied to cups and pens for use at the school.

 

We incorporated custom photography of the school classroom environment and building architecture, paired with stock photos for use in the website design and marketing collateral. The final results enhance The Grant Academy Brand message for aesthetic benefit and storytelling.

Project Objectives

Writer and author M.L. Childs needed a professional book cover design for her new paranormal romance novel The Vital Sacrifice. The design needed to capture the feeling of mystery and intrigue portrayed in the novel by a secret fraternal order of genies. They traded in their humdrum past lives to join the Order of Legions of Solomon’s Temple. With such a lavish life guaranteed by membership to this secret society, why would one of its top members risk his power and prestige all because of his obsession with the famous singer, Teresa McMillan?

A fraternal order, hundreds of years in the making, is in jeopardy of crumbling at the foundation because of one member’s failure to maintain protocol in order to protect the egocentric desires of the entire brotherhood. Can the power of love conquer all…even the undead? Find out in… “The Vital Sacrifice”.

 

The Vision

The vision for the book cover design was to create an image that represents the overall feel and mood of the novel. The story is shrouded in darkness and mystery as it reveals a world of semi-immortals that walk among us. The main character Ali, is not supposed to love. The nature of his being makes it nearly impossible. The cult of semi-immortals to which he belongs forbids it and plot to get rid of his love interest to keep their secret existence intact. The author wanted to cover design to portray the main character as half man and half something else, through a cloud of smoke surrounded in darkness and mystery. The use of genie lamp with blue smoke represents their powers of pure thought allowing them great magical abilities in our reality.

 

Ancient texts state that they are composed of “Smokeless Flame” or “Scorching Fire”. However this might be ancient mans way of describing that they are made of light and energy fused together with the fundamental forces of the Universe.

M. L. Childs is the author of The Vital Sacrifice and she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history from Spelman College. She was inspired to write The Vital Sacrifice after countless hours of listening to history lectures that were devoid of drama. The Vital Sacrifice fuses fiction, history, fantasy and drama together to create a paranormal tale that re-introduces the Western world to the Eastern concept of the genie.

 

M. L. Childs resides in Metro Atlanta, where she is developing her skills as a screenwriter. She also does freelance writing for a variety of magazines and blogs.

 

 

 

My Role

I worked with the client to understand the overall objectives and business needs for the design of her new paranormal romance novel cover. Miss Childs had a rough idea on what she wanted. We worked together to refine her concept into a design that would portray the story in a way that would attract consumers with intrigue and mystery. I organized the related elements needed to create the visual design and through the use of sound design principles and strategic planning I executed the design concept into a reality. I ensured the cover design properly represented the Paranormal romance by including elements beyond the range of scientific explanation, and blending together themes from the speculative fiction genres of fantasy, science fiction, and horror.

As the Creative Lead and Designer I developed the color palette, type treatments and applied photo editing and manipulation to create the final cover design.

 

Marketing Collateral

Miss Childs needed marketing designs for social media accounts and other online uses to help promote her new paranormal romance novel The Vital Sacrifice. I created a variety of designs in various sizes to help promote the new novel. I ensured all marketing materials have a cohesive and consistent look and voice to represent and help promote THE VITAL SACRIFICE.

 

I successfully designed and created the new book cover and marketing collateral for The Vital Sacrifice. I ensured a cohesive look and consistent graphic style was implemented across all designs.

Eyewitness Animations is dedicated to bringing “State of the Art” Graphic and Animation technology to the legal and engineering communities. Their primary service has been the reconstruction of crime scenes and accidents through the use of computer generated 3D graphics and animation. They specialize in reconstruction of aviation, railroad, maritime, and vehicular accidents. In addition to Industrial / Architectural Reconstructions. They required a professionally designed Sales Deck that was simple, bold and engaging to clearly define their unique services.

The Vision

Eyewitness Animations are experts in aviation investigation, aviation law and have over 20 years experience in crime scene reconstruction. Their animations are key pieces of evidence that presents a comprehensive picture of the scene and activity occurring for all types of trail cases. The vision for the new Sales Deck design was to create scalable and consistent visuals, clearly define and execute communications on who they are, their experience and their extensive knowledge designing and creating State of the Art Graphics and Animation. We also needed to provide samples of their custom animation model that is a highly successful demonstrative tool that helps to enable a favorable settlement in a trail case.

Eyewitness Animations mission is to provide the highest quality Forensic Animations so more cases will be won and elicit far better settlement offers. Forensic Animation has the unique ability to bring a clarity to, and an understanding of an event unlike any other medium with the possible exception of an actual eyewitness video. It can vicariously take a jury to the scene of the event as it unfolds, effectively making them the eyewitnesses.

 

 

My Role

I worked with an Eyewitness Animations consultant during an in-depth strategy process meeting to analyze and understand the dynamics of the company and the services we needed to document and design for the Sales Deck project. We needed to clearly display who they are, their mission, extensive experience and proven success with Graphic and Animation technology. Eyewitness Animations was one of the original founders of this branch of forensic sciences and is responsible for the development of many of the techniques and processes used today in courts around the world. I incorporated the Eyewitness Animations brand to the design of the document and ensured the design felt relatable and inclusive, and to embrace boldness through design elements that tell the story of their technological advancement, thought leadership, and a passion for the producing forensic graphics and animations. I provide examples of the demonstrative exhibits created which covers the various services provided by Eyewitness Animations. In addition to providing client testimonials and case awards from their 24 year history.

We successfully designed the new Executive Sales Deck for Eyewitness Animations through strategic planning and execution of the business requirements and objectives. I ensured a cohesive design and consistent graphic style was implemented to represent and demonstrate the capabilities and quality of work the company provides with their unique Graphic and Animation services.

We needed to clearly explain how their model works and how funds will be used for many online marketing opportunities to give them the advantage over their competition.

My Role

I worked with a MailPix consultant to understand the overall objectives and business needs to build the new Sales Deck. We brainstormed ideas based on the required retail and financial information, and how to convey the competitive advantage MailPix can provide consumers. I utilized the MailPix brand, color palette and type treatments as a base to build the design to clearly demonstrate their mission to make it easy to upload, share, archive and print your photos. I ensured the design has a cohesive and consistent look and voice to represent the MailPix corporate image and clearly communicate their marketing, growth and advertising strategy.

As the Creative Lead I ensured the brand and design of the website reflected the feel of the business and services they provide to their users. Using the principles of design I ensured the website was easy to understand and navigate while providing the required content for the NTH users. Utilizing the latest technologies I was able to create high quality work products and deliverables which resulted in the successful design and application of the NTH brand. The Alicorn Institute required a complete company branding including creation of the company logo and website. The digital brand identity for the Alicorn Institute represent their primary purpose, to provide therapeutic counseling and/or pranic healing sessions to individuals who embrace an integrative paradigm in their approach to physical disease or psychological imbalance. The website design includes the many paths to healing the Alicorn Institute provides through custom designed images to symbolize each path offered. They also required a dynamic online schedule and class registration feature for all clients to sign-up for classes through their website.

 

The Vision

The vision for the Alicorn Institute was to create a calm soothing design with the use of subtle colors and strong imagery throughout the site and ensure the Identity and Brand has a strong, positive meaning for their clients. The navigation is organized in a thoughtful way to provide a user-centric experience and highlight the key services offered by the Alicorn Institute. The flow of information and content layout is organized to communicate the business objectives in a compelling way, is user friendly and keeps the users interested and wanting to explore more of the website content.

 

My Role

To understand the overall objectives and business needs of the client I facilitated an information gathering sessions to brainstorm ideas and understand their vision and requirements. With this information I created the company image and brand with the design of the company logo, tagline and overall use of color throughout the website and identity collateral. The final solution depends upon the design and development of effective identity system to reflect the company through sound design principles, strategic planning and execution of the business requirements and objectives. I designed and implemented the visual and functional structure of the website with the use of the WordPress CMS and creative use of HTML5 and CSS3.
