Project Objectives

The Grant Academy is a private school that specializes in the education of elementary age students with learning and cognitive disabilities, ADHD, ADD, Asperger’s autism, and other disabilities. The Grant Academy came to us to create and build a full branding and web experience that captured their unique approach to optimize learning for all types of students. The new visual design and brand must help them to stand out from other private S.T.E.M. schools into a league of their own, while communicating the benefits and affordability of their style of education and learning.

The Grant Academy believes all students can learn, but some learn differently. They use a whole brain approach to optimize learning. If students can feel it, touch it, hear it, and experience it, they can gain a better understanding and experience true learning.

The new visual design and brand is evocative, real, and clear, and the voice captures The Grant Academy’s devotion to the success of its students, collaborative spirit, and integrity.

Branding

My Role

As the Creative Lead, Designer and Information Architect I worked with the client to gather requirements and understand the overall vision, objectives and business needs for the new Grant Academy brand and online experience. I created the branding guidelines, website structure, content flow, page layouts and design by utilizing the latest interactive technologies including HTML5, CSS3 and WordPress Shortcodes to create a user-centered design focused on the key services offered by The Grant Academy. I ensured the online experience, all design collateral and marketing materials have a cohesive and consistent look and feel to represent The Grant Academy brand.

The overall experience of the website symbolizes The Grant Academy’s modern approach to special education. We implemented clear interactions with clean design elements, bold graphics and custom photography, which aligns with the quality of courses provided by The Grant Academy and their educators.

Collateral & Photography

The Grant Academy required visual identity collateral for their teachers and for general use within the school. The brand collateral needs to do be much more than just be pretty, it must communicate their services and create a positive message to the parents of potential students. The design must convey their message in a clear and distinguishable way across all collateral. The media used to support the message should have consistent color, style, and visual assets across all channels and further The Grant Academy’s mission. We also designed the school signage and a marketing brochure to clearly communicate The Grant Academy’s purpose and abilities as a Private Elementary S.T.E.M. School that can be trusted with their students education. The new brand image was also applied to cups and pens for use at the school.

We incorporated custom photography of the school classroom environment and building architecture, paired with stock photos for use in the website design and marketing collateral. The final results enhance The Grant Academy Brand message for aesthetic benefit and storytelling.

We successfully designed a complete ecosystem of brand visuals and online experience for The Grant Academy Brand with the creation of the brand, logo, website and collateral. The end result is a unified brand experience and web presence that is smart, approachable, and attractive to parents of potential students.

Project Objectives

Writer and author M.L. Childs needed a professional book cover design for her new paranormal romance novel The Vital Sacrifice. The design needed to capture the feeling of mystery and intrigue portrayed in the novel by a secret fraternal order of genies. They traded in their humdrum past lives to join the Order of Legions of Solomon’s Temple. With such a lavish life guaranteed by membership to this secret society, why would one of its top members risk his power and prestige all because of his obsession with the famous singer, Teresa McMillan?

A fraternal order, hundreds of years in the making, is in jeopardy of crumbling at the foundation because of one member’s failure to maintain protocol in order to protect the egocentric desires of the entire brotherhood. The Vision

M. L. Childs is the author of The Vital Sacrifice and she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history from Spelman College. She was inspired to write The Vital Sacrifice after countless hours of listening to history lectures that were devoid of drama. The Vital Sacrifice fuses fiction, history, fantasy and drama together to create a paranormal tale that re-introduces the Western world to the Eastern concept of the genie.

M. L. Childs resides in Metro Atlanta, where she is developing her skills as a screenwriter. She also does freelance writing for a variety of magazines and blogs.

My Role

I worked with the client to understand the overall objectives and business needs for the design of her new paranormal romance novel cover. Miss Childs had a rough idea on what she wanted. We worked together to refine her concept into a design that would portray the story in a way that would attract consumers with intrigue and mystery. I organized the related elements needed to create the visual design and through the use of sound design principles and strategic planning I executed the design concept into a reality. I ensured the cover design properly represented the Paranormal romance by including elements beyond the range of scientific explanation, and blending together themes from the speculative fiction genres of fantasy, science fiction, and horror.

As the Creative Lead and Designer I developed the color palette, type treatments and applied photo editing and manipulation to create the final cover design.

Marketing Collateral

Miss Childs needed marketing designs for social media accounts and other online uses to help promote her new paranormal romance novel The Vital Sacrifice. I created a variety of designs in various sizes to help promote the new novel. I ensured all marketing materials have a cohesive and consistent look and voice to represent and help promote THE VITAL SACRIFICE.

I successfully designed and created the new book cover and marketing collateral for The Vital Sacrifice. I ensured a cohesive look and consistent graphic style was implemented across all designs.

Project Objectives

Cake Envy required an updated branding and new modern website to represent the company and provide detailed information for their unique services and history. The owner and cake designer Natalie loves anything creative and has painted, created different types of art and cloths. Natalie decided to use her skills and love for creativity to create custom and unique cake and desert designs. The new website needed to reflect her love of creativity with a unique custom design that is easy to use, yet still functional and provides her customers with details on her process, prices and examples of her extensive knowledge on custom cake and desert design. In addition the overall user experience must provide customers with detailed information on the endless options available including flavors, frosting types, fillings, custom designs and pricing options provided by Cake Envy.

Re-Branding – Website Design – Development Solutions

Cake Envy specializes in high-end wedding & groom cakes, special event cakes, and desserts! Because the details matter!

The Vision

Our goal with Cake Envy was to make their brand and user experience more interactive and engaging for their users. We updated the logo and color palette to a more modern style, then designed a new website focused on the unique custom cakes and deserts created by Cake Envy. All based on sound design principles and built on the latest web development technologies.

Great events don’t just happen… they are strategically planned and orchestrated! Now, more than ever before, a cake is the showpiece of any event! It’s the centerpiece of the entire room.

My Role

As the Creative Lead and Information Architect I worked with the client to gather information and understand the overall vision, objectives and business needs for the new Cake Envy website. With this information I created a workflow and sitemap and translated that into a user experience strategy and framework for the new website. I utilized strong imagery of Cake Envy’s custom designed cakes and deserts, combined with custom designed icons and clean clear page designs and layouts to communicate the relation between the Cake Envy key services and experiences they offer to their clients. The final solution was accomplished through the use of creative solutions, strategic planning and execution of the business requirements and objectives within the design and development of the Cake Envy website.

It was highly important that all photos of the custom and unique designs created by Cake Envy are clear and crisp to represent the high quality products they create for their clients. To ensure this all photos were processed, color corrected and touched up when needed, to ensure all the details of the creative designs came through to prospective clients.

As the overall project Creative Lead, Designer and Developer I created the navigational flow, organization and website structure. In addition I managed the design and development of all graphics for the website and branding solutions to ensure consistency. While creating a positive message for their future clients and representing their key services and business goals.

Project Objectives

Sauce Stix are a variety of pre-made sauces conveniently frozen and packaged ready for use to help create tasty meals, while incorporating different flavors from around the world. Sauced Stix required the creation of its brand image with the design of its logo, color palette and product packaging design for its variety of different Sauce Stix flavors.

Jump start your food with saucestix, pre-made frozen sauce ready to add to any dish you make. It comes in six different flavors made with 12 all natural ingredients, no artificial color or preservatives.

The Vision

Through our initial requirements gathering session with the client we brainstormed ideas and ensured we were clear on the direction for the new Sauce Stix brand and packaging design. To create a strong brand through packaging design and branding it requires more than a good eye. The information, layout and product design must have clarity and simplicity, honesty, authenticity, shelf impact, extensibility and practicality. An overall good design is about communicating and providing a compelling consumer product, not just making things look attractive.

My Role

I worked directly with the client to understand their business, marketing goals and creative vision and applied this to the design of the Sauce Stix packaging. We applied the Sauce Stix brand to the design of 6 different packages for the different sauces offered by Sauce Stix, include southwestern, tuscan, pacific rim, caribbean, mid west and southern. We tied the brand across all designs using a consistent style and application of the logo, photo placement, titles and related text information and graphics. We used custom photography from scotthillDesign on all of the Sauce Stix box designs. The photos used in the designs tie into the product title and region each Sauce Stix gets their inspiration from for the flavor and seasonings used in it’s ingredients. We also used different color palettes for each design to help enhance the package design, product recognition and shelf impact.

A professionally designed solution will enhance the perceived value of your offerings and increase your sales. We designed a brand identity that connects product recognition with the consumer using consistent graphic styles, color unification, and repetition while maintaining the product identity and Sauce Stix brand.

Additional Uses

After the initial design of the Sauce Stix brand and packaging they were looking for an additional option on ways to package their products. They needed an option that would allow for packaging their unique sauces in different amounts that the original package design would not allow. We decided a simple label design would allow for this. With a label design the sauces could be packaged using plastic wrap and could accommodate different amounts of Sauce Stix in one package. Then the label could be applied to carry the Sauce Stix brand across this additional product solution.

The final solution depends upon the design of an effective brand to reflect the company through sound design principles, strategic planning and execution of the business requirements and objectives. With the use of custom imagery and clear and simple designs we successfully designed the Sauce Stix packaging designs and brand message which resulted in a satisfied client.

MailPix introduced a new service to allow anyone in the USA, Canada, UK and Germany to easily upload photos from any device and print a variety of optional medium including standard prints, custom banners, posters, wall decor, canvas prints, photo books, greeting cars, etc. MailPix needed a professionally designed Sales Deck to help promote their new services to a variety of customers.

Photos can be picked up same day or mailed directly to you for your convenience.

My Role

I worked with a MailPix consultant to understand the overall objectives and business needs to build the new Sales Deck. We brainstormed ideas based on the required retail and financial information, and how to convey the competitive advantage MailPix can provide consumers. I utilized the MailPix brand, color palette and type treatments as a base to build the design to clearly demonstrate their mission to make it easy to upload, share, archive and print your photos. I ensured the design has a cohesive and consistent look and voice to represent the MailPix corporate image and clearly communicate their marketing, growth and advertising strategy.

Through the use of sound design principles, strategic planning and execution of the business requirements and objectives we successfully designed and created the MailPix Executive Sales Deck which resulted in a satisfied client.
